Buds, Soil and Garden Wonder by Sandra Moreano

February and March are perfect months for a nature walk with kids to search for buds. Some will grow into leaves, others into flowers, and a few might surprise you by sprouting both at once! Observe closely, ask questions, and let curiosity guide your steps—no need for devices, just a sense of wonder.

This is also a great time to get hands-on in the garden. Empty old pots, break up clumps of soil, and prepare the earth for planting. Teach kids how loose soil helps seeds push toward the sky. Celebrate the sight of worms, clear out larger rocks, and dream of the flowers and vegetables to come. When the soil warms, try planting sunflowers, green beans, and marigolds—my favorite, as they never disappoint!
